From Carbondale basement dwellers to headliners

Carbondale band Typical Ghost’s origin didn’t stem from an open mic, neighborhood jam session or a “musician wanted” post online.

It was the fall of 2022, and Shane Lieberman — a guitarist who had recently moved to Carbondale after years of playing in bands on the Front Range — was walking his dog through his new neighborhood when he struck up a conversation with Sam Chittenden.

Carbondale-based jam band Typical Ghost has been on a steady performing streak since releasing its debut album in April, one that will culminate in the group’s first headlining show at Rifle’s Ute Theater next weekend.

Functioning as a love letter to music’s fleeting nature, the band blends jazz, rock, funk and pop tunes into original, improvisation-laced compositions.

Its performance at the Ute on Feb. 28 will be no exception.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS POST INDEPENDENT - JUNE 17, 2025

Carbondale-based band Typical Ghost released its self-titled debut album in April, formally introducing the group’s improvisatory jazz,rock, funk and pop tunes to audiences on streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.

Now, the local jam band and KDNK Community Radio are hosting an album release block party to commemorate the milestone achievement.
